One of the places on the planet with the purest air, pristine flora and fauna, and some fabulous artworks of nature. If you are not going on a cruise to Alaska but want to see everything in one place that Alaska has to offer, I would recommend the capital city of Alaska -Juneau. We had covered Juneau as part of our North America vacation, hopping from Yellow Stone National Park Wyoming to Alberta to Juneau.

Glacier, icebergs, whale watching, salmon breeding, bear spotting, bald eagles, seals, museums and a happening little downtown, Juneau has it all. About whale watching, Juneau is a place where there is a 100 % success rate in whale sightings, so much so that some tour companies even give a money back offer if no whales are sighted.

We had gone in the month of July. Our hotel in Juneau was Best western country lane inn . It is a 2 mins drive from the airport. In Juneau you cannot find Sheratons so I will focus on the positive points of the hotel. It had comfortable beds, had the standard breakfast layout, had a self serve laundry and the most convenient factor, it had a free shuttle to and from the airport and the juneau downtown. Juneau down town is the spot where you will be spending the majority of your time when you are in Juneau. It has restaurants, the shopping street, the Mt.Roberts gondola ride, the dock from where the Tracy Arm Fjord tour starts and is also the starting point of the whale watch tour buses which take you to the Auke bay.

Other things to do in Juneau
The Juneau downtown has some very nice souvenir shops and is really worth exploring.
Mt. Roberts gondola ride. But do it only if the weather is clear and not cloudy.
The Alaska State Museum is highly informative and interesting.
Salmon hatchery is another unique experience.

Where to eat in Juneau
Lots of restaurants to choose from
McDonald’s , pizza outlets, red dog saloon, there is even an Indian restaurant by the name of Saffron Indian Comfort Cuisine.
One which really stands out though is the Tracy’s King Crab Shack offering mouth watering crab bisque, the best crab cakes, crab legs, fried shrimps, garlic rolls and coleslaw.
